RATES MAINTAIN RECENT LOW LEVELS
January 21st, 2014
Interest rates stayed relatively calm last week. They improved on Monday and have maintained close to the same levels the rest of the week.
The Mortgage Backed Security market ended last week + 40 bps, but finished this Tuesday – 5 bps.
I expect the rate markets to be calm before the Fed statement coming next Wednesday. The December employment report revealed that there are still cracks in the economy. Most expect the FED to continue to taper down their asset purchasing program, but the historically below expected employment numbers may change that.
If you want to be safe, I would look at locking before next Wednesday. We are still in an environment where rates may see pockets of improvement, but will still move higher as long as the FED continues to taper.
Have a great week!!
